Utility Service Board May File Complaint With IURC

Utility Service Board Chairman Mike Kelley says the USB may be filing a complaint with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission in regards to circumstances surrounding the July 26 power outage. The action took place at a meeting on Tuesday, September 4.

Kelley said it is felt that Duke Energy may not have been proactive in keeping two power transmissions lines operational into the Frankfort grid. The outage resulted in more than 9,000 Frankfort Municipal Utilities customers were without power for around three hours on July 26 due to a lightning arrester that went out in one of the City, Light and Power substations and went ahead and took out power to another substation, according to Utility Service Board General Manager Todd Corrie.

Kelley also said they have asked Human Resources Director Jack Dodd to assemble necessary resources to address funding issues of the employee group retirement fund. Dodd should have those recommendations by early October.
