Vehicle Pursuit Results in Death of Driver

The Indiana State Police is reporting a man is deceased after an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound following a police pursuit early this morning.

Around 3:47 a.m. Sunday, a Trooper was checking on a vehicle stopped on the side of I-70 near the 85 mile marker. During the course of the interaction with the male driver, the trooper received information the person was possibly wanted on a warrant. While speaking with the trooper the suspect got back in the car and sped away leading officers on a chase into the downtown area.

Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department successfully deployed Stop Sticks near New York Street and Sherman causing at least one of the suspect vehicle’s tires to deflate. The chase ended near Poplar and Pleasant Run as the vehicle slowly coasted to a stop. The male driver was found deceased in the vehicle from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. He was identified as 30 year old Michael Lee Jr. of Michigan City Indiana.

It was determined Lee Jr. was wanted on a warrant out of St. Joseph County Michigan for resisting law enforcement.

This is an ongoing investigation with no further information available at this time.
