Vernon Meadal, 98, of Rossville, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Health Care in Delphi. He was born in Remington on June 23, 1926, to Clarence and Byrd (Gutherie) Meadal. He married Florence Miller on June 10, 1945. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2006, after 61 years of marriage. He then married Alice Skiles on August 25, 2007, and she survives.
Vernon was a 1944 graduate of Rossville High School. He served in the Unites States Army during World War II. He worked his life as a farmer. He was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, Rossville American Legion, the Rossville Golf League, and a past board member of Milner Health. Vernon enjoyed wintering in Texas, riding motorcycles with his friends, snow skiing and water skiing, and playing golf. He loved his family and enjoyed having family gatherings and sharing in laughter and memories with them.
Along with his wife of 16 years, Vernon is survived by his children, Rex (Sharon) Meadal, ReEtta Sipes, and Rick Goodnight; five step-children, Jim (Virginia) Skiles, Jack (Jill) Skiles, Cindy (David) Moss, Jeff (Diana) Skiles, Bradley (Kathy) Skiles; six grandchildren, Tammy (Kevin) Underhill, Marcia (Rusty) Thorp, Myra Sipes-Yundt, Nikkia Michelle Sipes, Tonya Jasheway, Bradley (Meredith) Trader; fifteen great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Along with his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Vicki Goodnight.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 2pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel in Rossville. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Clinton County Honor Guard.
