The Frankfort VFW Post 1110 3rd Annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Benefit Car Show will kick off this Sunday, May 26 from noon to 2 p.m. at the TPA Park Shelter #1 to raise funds for the Frankfort VFW to continue their service helping veterans across the county.
The “Veterans Helping Veterans” car show will open registration at 11 a.m. on Sunday with the car show kicking off from noon to 2 p.m., and awards will follow directly afterward at 2 p.m. Music will be provided by Amber Kennedy, food will be available and a 50/50 drawing will round out the event.
Organizer Randy West hosts benefit car shows throughout the entire year, including car shows for the VFW, the Frankfort Fire Department, COACH Kids of Clinton County and Shop with a Cop. West expressed that his fascination with antique cars and car shows in general truly began when he found the car his dad had always wanted.
“What got me started was I love cars, and my father I can remember years ago that he wanted to build a ’37 Chevrolet Coop, well low and behold I found one and built one in memory of my father,” West. “I just love old cars, and I’ve met so many people that you wouldn’t believe it. It seems like everywhere I go I see one of my car buddies.”
West stated that donations will be accepted at the benefit car show, and all proceeds will be given to the featured organization or foundation. For Sunday, the featured organization is the Frankfort VFW Post 1110.
“All of my shows are total benefits,” West said. “100% of what we take in on donations for the car show goes to the foundation that I’m doing the benefit for.”
West commented that the car shows transcend age gaps in families as he has seen attendees of all ages enjoy the show and win awards, especially during his Shop with a Cop benefit car show where the kids are incorporated into the show itself.
“I’ve had kids classes in my car show for Shop with a Cop,” West said. “There’s nothing more exciting than to see a 5 or 6-year-old kid coming up to receive a trophy. It’s something that will carry through their entire life.”
West expressed his excitement for the car show set for Sunday as he prepares for the possibility of 50 or more attendees who are vying for awards and willing to support the community of Clinton County with their donations.
“I am really looking forward to it,” West said. “I always look forward to all of them, but my first one, the veterans, I say look at what they’ve done for us. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we’re at.”
West also worked alongside other community members to help bring the staple Thursday Thunder to the Frankfort community, which has become a renowned event held twice a month throughout the summer that has attracted members of communities across the state to Clinton County.
