Virginia Isabelle (Campbell) Hodgen, 93, of Hopedale, Ill., entered into God’s grace Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Hopedale Nursing Home. She was born January 5, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri to William Roland and Jennie Isabelle (Jackson) Campbell. On October 6, 1945 she married Albert John Hodgen in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
They moved to the family farm in Frankfort, Indiana in 1950. Virginia was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and active in the Altar and Rosary Society. After the death of her husband in 1993, she remained on the family farm until she moved to Hopedale in 2014. Virginia enjoyed oil painting, knitting, and reading under her shade tree; she was always active and had volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her husband, Virginia is preceded in death by her brothers, William Campbell and Don Campbell.
Virginia is survived by her children, Judith (Douglas) Scheirer, of Tremont, Ill., Jennifer (Duane) Wittstock, of Norwalk, Iowa, Albert (Susan) Hodgen, of Lebanon, Michael Hodgen, of Winter Park, Fla., William (Joan) Hodgen, of Frankfort, Harry (Harriet) Hodgen, of Battleground, and Peter (Debbie) Hodgen, of Rossville; brothers, Bruce (Bobbi) Campbell, Steve (Lisa) Campbell, and Bob (Penny) Campbell; sister-in-law, Dorothy Campbell; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 2, 2018, at St. Mary Church Gruber Hall from 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary Church. Fr. Chris Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frankfort.
