Virginia (Ginny) was born in 1925, and therefore lived through both the Great Depression and World War II. Those events made a lasting impression on her, as a member of “The Greatest Generation” who lived through those times. For Ginny, this was manifested in the hard-working, persevering qualities that she maintained throughout her life. Her strong faith, caring spirit and love of family also set the example for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, which were many.
Ginny was an outstanding seamstress all her life, until her eyesight finally failed her. After generations of making clothes for her daughters and granddaughters, she migrated to crafting projects and quilting as well. She also spent a tremendous amount of time volunteering her services to any number of church or community projects, or just helping family and friends.
She and her husband Al were both very sociable, entertaining most of their adult life with many different friends and family members. Early on in their relationship Al would take her fishing (before and after their marriage) and eventually the whole family went on fishing trips! They especially enjoyed listening and/or dancing to music; Big Band and jazz were their favorites, in fact that’s how they met, at a dance hall in Chicago.
Our mother was loved by so many people, throughout her entire life. She will surely be missed!
A memorial service to celebrate Ginny’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1165 South Westmore-Meyers, Lombard, Illinois, 60148. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. Dinner to follow at the Church
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Trinity Lutheran Church (address above). This is the church that Ginny and Al loved and served for more than 65 years.
