Wanda S. Surber, 79, of Michigantown, passed away July 11, 2026 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. She was born on July 26, 1946 in Kokomo, Indiana to Harvey and Virgie Davis Phillips. She married Robert “Wayne” Surber on October 25, 1964 and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2010.
Wanda attended Clinton Central Schools and worked at the service desk at Walmart in Frankfort. She also worked at the Michigantown Townhouse, babysat, as well as served on the Michigantown Council for several years.
Surviving are her son: Rob (Kelli) Surber of Michigantown and her grandchildren: Blake Surber of Crawfordsville, Ian (Brandi) Lowery of Frankfort, and Cody (Kiersten) Howe of Frankfort, and two great grandchildren: Adley and Violet. She also leaves behind her special cat “John Wayne”.
The family is grateful for the loving care of friends Justin and Amber O’Brien and Vicki Saul who were wonderful help to Wanda and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, friend: Johnny Webb, brothers: Harvey Phillips Jr. and Norman Lee Phillips, along with sisters: Dorothy Dunkin and Maxine Schockey.
Friends may visit Thursday, July 16 from 11 a.m. to noon, with a funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Karl Kercheval will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Whiteman Cemetery in Michigantown. Goodwin Funeral Home is honored to assist the Surber family.
