Washington Avenue Project to Impact Parking

Beginning Monday, April 12, new parking restrictions will be enforced on E. Jefferson Street between Catterlin Street and Clay Street and on E. Morrison Street from Clay Street to Sims Street. Parking will only be permitted on the north side of these streets. No parking will be allowed on the south side of the road.

Due to the imminent closure of Washington Avenue, local school buses are seeking alternate routes that will allow the safe pick-up and drop-off of students. When parking is permitted on both sides, these side streets are too narrow to allow the school buses to pass through safely. Community Schools of Frankfort requested parking changes to better facilitate safe bus travel and their request was approved by the mayor and Board of Works.

“We are working with the schools to ensure bus accessibility to students in the northeast section of town,” says Frankfort Street Department Superintendent Jason Forsythe. “We recognize the Washington Avenue project has complicated student transportation, and we hope that reducing parking on Jefferson and Morrison streets will facilitate a better flow of traffic in this area.”

Washington Avenue is expected to be closed to through traffic from Williams Street to Washington Street starting on Monday, April 12. The parking restrictions for East Jefferson Street and East Morrison Street will continue for the duration of the Washington Avenue project.
