Werner and Son Recycling Center Suffers Huge Fire

Frankfort firefighters battled a blaze all day Monday at Werner and Son, Inc. Recycling Center at 600 W. Kyger St. in Frankfort.

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday to the commercial structure fire. When units arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the northeast corner of the structure.

A total of 40 firefighters were on the scene including firefighters from the Lebanon Fire Department along with volunteer departments from Michigantown and Rossville.

Kyger Street was closed between Rossville Avenue and North John Street for the majority of the day before being reopened shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. A Shelter in Place was issued late Monday afternoon. However, it was lifted less than two hours later.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is not known.

Due to the fire, the CIty of Frankfort has announced there will be no recycling pickup on Wednesday. City officials plan to meet Wednesday morning to figure out their temporary recycling plan.

The Werner and Son Recycling Center has served thousands across Frankfort for the past 40 years.
