Western Boone Volleyball Heading To State Finals

The Western Boone Stars Volleyball team is heading to the State Finals after winning two tough. matches in the Delta Semi-State.

The Stars took on the reigning 1A State Champions in Southwood in the first match of the day. Southwood came into the match having won 51 straight contests.

Western Boone found themselves down two sets to one late in the fourth set. Southwood had match point leading 28-27. With the season hanging into balance, the Stars rattled off three points to take the set 30-28.

The Stars were able to capitalize in the fifth set and won it 15-11, taking the match 3-2 in comeback fashion.

Raegan Durbin led the way with 34 kills in the match for the Stars, Sadie Poeck finished with 22 and Janie Ransom picked up 59 assists.

Less than five hours later, Western Boone took the court again in a matchup with Woodlan, who won their match against Jimtown 3-0 earlier in the day.

A back-and-forth first set went the Stars’ way 29-27. In the second set, Western Boone held a 22-14 advantage before Woodlan picked up eight straight. The Stars were able to withstand the flurry from the Warriors and picked a win in set two 27-25. Western Boone put the match away in set three, winning 25-17.

Durbin picked up 19 kills in the match, Poeck had 14 and Ransom had 42 assists.

The Stars will return to Worthen Arena at Ball State University three years removed from a five-set loss to Andrean in the 2021 State Finals.

Western Boone will match up with Brownstown Central at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
