Robby Taylor scored three touchdowns and Connor Hole added two more scores as Western Boone won the Class 2A state football championship for a second consecutive season with a 44-7 victory over Eastbrook Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The game was a rematch of the last year’s final which Western Boone won 34-20. This also marks the third state championship in school history and gave the Stars a 29-1 record over the past two title seasons.
The Stars finished the season with a 14-1 record after going undefeated at 15-0 in 2018.
Western Boone took the opening kickoff and marched 65 yards in 10 plays to ahead 7-0 on an 8-yard run by Hole. Hole added a 31-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. Robby Taylor had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs and a 5-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter. Quarterback Spencer Wright threw a pair of touchdowns, the second being a 37-yarder to Connor Garrity. Jacob Taylor added five extra points and closed out the scoring with a 26-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter.
The Stars amassed 512 yard of total offense while limiting Eastbrook to just 127. Brett Wethington led the rushing attack with 110 yard on 19 carries. Robby Taylor finished with 81 yards on 19 carries. Wright completed 14 of 18 passes for 254 yards and also rushed for 54 yards on 10 carries. Hole finished with six catches for 79 yards, while Cortez Soudemire had five catches for 130 yards and Garrity added two catches for 44 yards.
Wright also had six tackles on defense which tied him for team with Josh Benson and Luke Marsh. Hole and Wethington each added five tackles.
