The Western Panthers took down the Rossville Hornets 16-4 in Wednesday night’s Hoosierland TV Softball Game of the Week. 
In a highly anticipated non-conference matchup, two softball powerhouses took the field at Rossville. But the Panthers showed out, scoring 16 runs on 14 hits to beat the Hornets in five innings.
The teams traded blows in the first two innings. Western scored three in both innings, while Rossville added two runs in each.
Western blew the game open in the third, plating seven runs, all with two outs. At one point, the Panthers had eight hits in a row.
At the plate, Ruby Weaver went 4-4 with a triple and six RBIs. Brynlee Erb continued her excellent season. The University of Kentucky commit reached base three times and scored three runs.
Lucy George was the star for the Panthers. The junior got it done on both sides, collecting three hits and four RBIs and striking out seven in relief action.
George entered the circle with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the third and proceeded to strike out three in a row. The broadcast team named George The Farmers Bank Player of the Game.
Despite the loss, Gracie McDonald, Kynlee Meyers and Autumn Paschal all had multi-hit games for the Hornets.
Rossville right fielder Caydence Robey was also a bright spot for the Hornets, making multiple highlight plays in the outfield to steal hits from Western. Her sliding grab in the third inning earned the Solidarity Community Federal Credit Union Play of the Game.
Rossville dropped to 9-7 with the loss, while Western moved to 15-7.
The Hornets will look to bounce back tonight as they battle Taylor in their final Hoosier Heartland Conference game before the conference tournament.
