Westfield Tops List for Best U.S. Suburb

Inside INdiana Business is reporting that when it comes to leaving the city and buying a home in the suburbs, a new national ranking places Westfield in the top spot. Real estate portal Homes.com wanted to take a closer look at the shift in consumer behavior in terms of housing and remote working.

Prompted by the pandemic, working from home and the elimination of commutes has resulted in a mass migration away from large metropolitan areas, according to the website.

Homes.com ranked the top 50 suburbs in the U.S. The list of bedroom communities is based on the U.S. Census’s list of fastest-growing towns in each state and ranked them against a set of homebuying criteria.

The overall scores are based on home prices, size of houses, yard size, income to housing price ratio, work-from-home radio, schools, crime and diversity.

In its write-up, Homes.com said, “Westfield provides a charming mix of newly constructed, craftsman-style homes, at listing prices that are extremely reasonable in respect to the suburb’s median annual household income.”

While some states had more than one community, Westfield was the only Indiana suburb to make the list.

“It is not just one thing that builds a great community. It is a true partnership and shared commitment from our public safety team, school leaders, business partners and our residents.  We are proud of what we have accomplished and where we are going, and it is nice to be noticed,” the city said in a statement.

In addition to being the top-ranked suburb, the Hamilton County community also scores high for being conducive for remote work, coming in second behind Leesburg, Virginia.
