Whitestown Officer Receives Officer Of The Year Award During Saturday Celebration

On Saturday, the Donald E. Pipes American Legion Post 410 hosted and presented one of its members with the 2024 Officer of the Year Award after nominations were made by members of the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department and submitted to the American Legion.

The recipient of the 2024 Officer of the Year Award was officer Kyle Haskins, who joined the Whitestown force in October 2023 and has been a law enforcement officer for over 10 years, serving with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Township Schools as a School Resource Officer prior to joining the Whitestown team.

“In his brief time with us, Officer Haskins has shown his commitment to continuously improving himself and in turn the department by having what his supervisors best described as a ‘department first’ mentality,” the department released.

In May 2023, Haskins jumped at the opportunity to become a department Defensive Tactics instructor and dedicated countless hours to assisting with training in addition to fulfilling his primary responsibilities as a patrol officer.

“Lastly and most importantly, officer Haskins brings a positive and contagious attitude with him every day,” the department released. “He never hesitates to tell new officers, supervisors or administration how thankful he is to be at WMPD, and that it was the best decision he ever made. He is always upbeat and improves the attitudes and quality of work of those surrounding him.”
