The Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department released a statement regarding National Police Memorial Day today, Wednesday, May 15
with an announcement that numerous Whitestown officers are attending the national ceremony today in Washington D.C.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Police Memorial Day, and this year, the national day falls along National Police Week. During the national week, thousands of police officers, active and retired, from around the world gather in Washington D.C. to celebrate the contributions of law enforcement officers throughout history and throughout the nation and pay honor to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. This year, the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department announced that multiple officers are in attendance for the ceremony in Washington D.C.
“WMPD is honored to have officers attending,” the department released. “May all take pause during this week to remember and reflect upon America’s law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice so others may live.”
The Town of Whitestown released a statement regarding the department’s dedication to remembering and honoring police officers across the nation, past and present.
“Thank you to the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department for their unwavering dedication and selfless acts in keeping our community safe,” the town wrote. “Your bravery, sacrifice and commitment to service are truly commendable. In honor of National Police Week, please take a moment to share appreciation for the everyday heroes who put their lives on the line for us.”
National Police Week spans from Sunday, May 12 through Saturday, May 18 this year.
