William Eugene Abston Jr.,69, formerly of Frankfort, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at his home in Homosassa, FL. He was born in Frankfort on October 4, 1950 to William E. and Marjorie I. (Campbell) Abston. He married Cathy Jackson; they later divorced.
Bill was a retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of lance corporal. He was a proud member of the Local 80 painter’s union. “Wild Bill”, as he was known by his friends, loved to wrench on rods and “wheeling and dealing”. He enjoyed hanging with his buddies doing “guy stuff”.
Bill is survived by his sons, Eric Abston of Lafayette, Travis Lee Abston of Frankfort, and Billy Abston of Ohio; sisters, Rita (Larry) Barnett for Frankfort, Charlene (Ray) Taylor of Frankfort, Darlene Inman of Florida, and Gail (William) Abbott of rural Frankfort; along with ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Donald, brother Danny, sister Linda Sue, and grandson Travis.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be live-streamed and available to view at www.gendafuneralhome.com. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
