Each year on the Saturday before Fathers Day for the last 45 years, the town of Flora (population 2126) and the Flora Lions Club, Flora Police Department or Psi Iota Xi have hosted the popular “Flora Hog Jog”. This year on the morning of June 17th the Flora Lions Club and several hundred runners and family and friends will gather for the 45th running of the Flora Hog Jog. The Saturday Morning adventure this year is split into four events –all open to the public. 200 runners are registered to date and Lions Club Organizer Susan Shively predicts another 100 runners will typically register on the morning of the event.
Weather for Flora Saturday morning looks great. The Flora forecast is calling for lots of sunshine with a very light breeze from the East throughout the morning. Rain, if any, is not expected in Flora until after 7 pm Saturday evening. The temperature at day break Saturday should be in the mid 50’s heading for a sunny high of 84 degrees by 4 PM.
All Hog Jog events originate at the Flora Community Park on the East side of Flora. The Flora Community Park is also known as the same location for the Carroll County 4-H Fair. Events this year:
- 10K Run starting at 8:15 AM
- 2-mile Run starting at 7:30 AM
- 2-mile Walk starting at 7:30 AM
- 500 Meter Runt Jog ages 2-7 starts at 9:30 AM
The Carroll High School FFA will hold a pancake sausage breakfast for a free will offering from 8 to 10 Saturday Morning. Legacy Meat Processors (formerly Indiana Packers) will have porkburgers available and SuperValu Market in Flora will supply Watermelon for the runners. T-shirts will also be available for runners while supplies last.
The Flora Hog Jog made its debut in 1978. It attracts runners and families from Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and throughout the state. Shively said it is a popular weekend to hold the event because families return for a relaxing weekend to run and visit their father and other family members. It is not unusual to see fathers and returning families run in the event. Shively said the Hog Jog is returning nicely to its pre-covid days. Shively anticipates more attractions may be added to the event next year as the event returns to normal.
The 2 hour LIVE broadcast on WILO 96.9 FM, WILO Lebanon 102.7 FM and 1570 AM with Cindy Loveless 7:30 to 9:30 is made possible by:
