Mrs. Winnona Violet Steiner, 85, passed away at Majestic Care of Carmal in Carmel, Indiana on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. She was born in Portland, Indiana, on November 2, 1938, a daughter of the late Alva Wood and Erma Josephine (McMinn) Wood.
Winnie attended Portland High School through her 11th grade year.
Winnie began her journey at the Home Café in Portland where she washed pots and pans. In the 1950s, she began a new chapter in Anderson, Indiana, where she was self-employed and cleaned houses.
Winnie achieved her goal of graduating from Anderson High School in 1982. She moved to Lebanon in 1985, where she was a night watch security guard at the United Methodist Church Home and later retired.
Winnie was a member of Sugar Plains Friends Church in Thorntown, and she volunteered at the Caring Center for 14 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and had a love for animals.
Survivors include her beloved friends, Sandy (Nolan) Hawkins and Skylar Hawkins.
Funeral Services are planned for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow services at Browns Wonder, in Lebanon, Indiana.
