Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Central Indiana Extended Through Saturday Night: Snow and Slick Roads Expected

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until midnight EST Sunday, as central Indiana braces for accumulating snow and hazardous driving conditions.

Snow is expected to fall across portions of central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Indiana beginning Saturday at 11 a.m. and continuing through Saturday night. Total snow accumulations are forecasted to reach 2 to 5 inches, making travel on roads potentially dangerous.

The advisory specifically includes the following counties: Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Henry, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby, Rush, Sullivan, Greene, Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Lawrence, Jackson, and Jennings.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly on secondary and untreated roads, and to allow extra travel time. Even light snow accumulations can create slippery surfaces, increasing the risk of accidents.

Residents should also be prepared for cold temperatures over the weekend, with lows approaching 0°F or lower and wind chill values possibly reaching -20°F early Sunday morning. Limit time outdoors, dress warmly, and monitor local updates for any changes in weather conditions.

The National Weather Service requests snowfall reports from the public to assist in tracking conditions across the region.
