Work on I-65 Added Travel Lanes and Bridge Construction Project Set for April

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces 9th Street will close on or after Monday, April 3 for continued work on the I-65 added travel lanes and bridge construction project near Battleground. 9th St. will be closed between Burnetts Rd. and Prophets Rock Rd. It’s expected to remain closed through early July, weather permitting.

The official detour follows Burnetts Rd. to River Rd. to County Road 600 N. to Prophets Rock Rd. and back to 9th St.

Starting on or after Saturday, April 8, the I-65 southbound exit ramp will close at S.R. 43. The official detour for the ramp closure involves exiting southbound I-65 at S.R. 18, then traveling to S.R. 43, and then back to I-65. Emergency responders will be kept informed of which route/ramp they will have access to each week. The ramp is expected to reopen after early August, weather permitting.

There will also be restrictions on I-65, from the Wabash River to the Co. Rd. 725 overpass. This will allow crews to safely continue work on the project. The northbound lanes are currently restricted. The southbound lane restrictions will start on or after Saturday, April 8. The restrictions will remain in place through early December, weather permitting.

This project was awarded to Walsh Construction Co. for over $99.4 million. This project will add an additional lane in both directions from the Wabash River Bridge to nearly 2.5 miles north of S.R. 43. Work also includes widening the Ninth St., Prophets Rock and S.R. 43 Bridges, improving the geometrics of the S.R. 43 ramps.  S.R. 43 will be resurfaced within the interchange area and a traffic signal will be added at the on I-65 southbound ramps at S.R. 43. The entire project is expected to be completed after late May of 2025.

INDOT urges motorists to slow down, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through work zones.
