Inside INdiana Business is reporting a bill calling for the state to evaluate dozens of workforce programs has passed through the Indiana House. Holli Sullivan (R-78), who co-authored the bill, says Indiana currently spends about $1 billion on those programs, and analyzing them will ensure the state is using those resources well.
Sullivan says the measure would analyze the strengths and areas in need of improvement of around 30 workforce programs offered through nine agencies. The bill would also establish the Next Level Workforce Training and Development Fund to oversee investments made into the programs. In addition, the legislation would call on the Indiana Department of Workforce Development to publicize available grants and programs to local school officials and students.
“This bill would ensure the state better utilizes resources connecting Hoosiers with high-wage jobs in high-demand fields,” Sullivan said. “Working to restructure our workforce development programs will aid in connecting individuals with the proper training needed to secure a job while helping to align the needs of employers and workers.”
House Bill 1002 now moves on to the Indiana Senate.
