The YWCA is encouraging community members across the nation to wear denim to make a statement of their support for sexual assault survivors while tagging photos with #DenimDay to spread awareness of the cause.

According to the YWCA, “we wear denim because there is no excuse and never an invitation to harass, abuse or assault.”

Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets declared April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month earlier this year, and city officials have pledged to join in the movement by participating in Denim Day.

“Wear denim and raise awareness about sexual assault,” the Mayor’s Office released. “Partnering with the YWCA of Greater Lafayette, we are showing support for survivors and working to create a safe, healing community.”
