Zionsville Receives Nearly $150,000 Grant for Event Safety Barriers

The Town of Zionsville has received $149,898.86 in federal funding to improve safety at community events.

The grant was awarded through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) State Homeland Security Program for Federal Fiscal Year 2025.

The funding was used to purchase reusable vehicle barriers, which the Zionsville Police Department has purchased and received. The barriers will help protect residents and visitors at community gatherings, including the Lions Club Fall Festival parade, Fourth of July fireworks at Lions Park and the annual Main Street dance in August.

“We are grateful to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security for their support in our efforts to keep our town safe and secure,” said Mayor John Stehr. “It gives our public safety officers another tool in the toolbox to keep Zionsville residents and our visitors safe from harm.”

Police Chief Michael Spears said the department is committed to providing security at community events.

“The men and women of the Zionsville Police Department are fully committed to helping ensure safety and security for all town events,” Spears said. “This grant allows us to provide a higher level of protection for all.”

The State Homeland Security Program provides federal funding to help state and local agencies prepare for, protect against and respond to terrorism, natural disasters and other major emergencies.

Indiana counties and municipalities apply annually through IDHS for funding to address specific risks identified in their communities.
