The Clinton County Chamber of Commerce and the Wildcat Creek Career Cooperative presented their 2018 Career Tech Outstanding Student Award Thursday night at the Skanta Theatre in the Frankfort Community Public Library.

A total of 19 students representing all four schools in Clinton County were honored at the event. Following a welcome and opening statements by Miranda Hutcheson, Director of Career and Technical Education for Wildcat Creek Career Cooperative, and Jason Wilhite, Membership and Events Director for the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Shan Sheridan, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce CEO and Economic Director for Clinton County, introduced Indiana State Senator Jim Buck, who was the keynote speaker for the evening.

“You thought processes are your most valuable asset,” said Buck to the students and assembled crowd. “Don’t be afraid to stand your ground.”

Buck went on to say that work ethic is prevalent in today’s society.

“It’s how you get along with people that will determine how well you do,” said Buck. “Times change and you will change. It depends on your core values. We all have a common goal in life and you need to determine what your legacy is going to be.”

One of the 19 students recognized was Frankfort High School senior Colton Crum, who was asked what this honor meant to him.

“It means everything,” said Crum. “Honestly, I think my biggest asset is my thinking. Although athletics is something you read about, you see and it’s in the news, it’s not my most proud thing. It is my mind definitely.”

Crum, who is going to college at Notre Dame, also had a special thank you.

“I’m honored that my track coach Richard Sallee thought of me enough in the classroom to give me an award like this,” said Crum. “It’s not unlikely that I would get an award for athletics. This radio and television award that he decided to give me actually means a whole lot to me.”
