Purdue Program Aims to Create ‘Technology Maestros’

Inside INdiana Business is reporting that the Purdue University School of Electrical and Computer Engineering is launching a professional master’s program with a concentration in innovative technologies. The university says the aim of the one-year program is to develop leaders in technology innovation.

The focus of the program will be on “creating innovative products and solutions enabled by new technologies.” Vijay Raghunathan, professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the program, says it will feature an immersive design experience where student teams conceive, pitch, and execute projects while developing and practicing their technical, business and soft skills.

Mark Lundstrom, professor of electrical and computer engineering, chairs the faulty leadership council for the program and says the goal is to develop “technology maestros.”

“Progress in electronics over the past 50 years has given us a set of technologies with almost unlimited capabilities, and new technologies continue to emerge,” Lundstrom said in a news release. “This new program is designed to develop technical leaders who can seize the opportunities that this new era of electronics offers.”

The first cohort for the program will begin in the fall of 2019. Purdue says each cohort will include students with different technical expertise and different backgrounds, some with industry experience and some coming directly from undergraduate programs.
