
The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to increase the public’s understanding of law enforcement duties and responsibilities. There is no charge for the classes which are designed to give citizens information relating to the training police officers are provided. The eight sessions are held once per week on Wednesdays. The classes are the in the City Building Council Chambers, 100 South Union Street, Kokomo, from 6-9 p.m. The first class will start on Wednesday, March 6. The classes will not meet March 27, and graduation is scheduled for May 1.
The Citizens Police Academy will accept 25 applicants. Applicants must be a minimum of 18-years-old with no felony record or criminal arrests within a three-year period of the March 6, start date. Applicants are subject to a background check.
Applicants must attend seven out of eight sessions to graduate. Those who graduate will receive a certificate and become eligible to become a member of the Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
