Development in downtown Kokomo has led Crossroads Community Church to plan its next campus location in the heart of the city. The church recently purchased the former Hillegoss law office at 116 N. Main Street, across from the Howard County Courthouse. Since September of 2018, the church has been temporarily holding Sunday services at the Kokomo YMCA. The changes in downtown has led the church leadership to seek a permanent space in the area.
“We firmly believe in the changes Mayor (Greg) Goodnight and his administration have made,” said Kevin Sprinkle, the North Campus Pastor of Crossroads Community Church. “The increased walkability of downtown and connectivity has brought a new energy to the city.”
The church is hoping to begin renovations on the building in May, including the creation of a 340-seat auditorium on the ground floor. Other improvements would include a third floor event space that could be used for community events with a commercial kitchen and dining area plus breakout and meeting rooms on other floors. The second floor would be utilized as office space for the church’s North campus ministries. Eventually, Crossroads hopes to relocate its central offices to the site, bringing 15 to 18 employees additional employees to downtown.
“We are thrilled to locate our church directly across from the courthouse,” said Chris Duncan, lead pastor of Crossroads. “We want to offer hope and help to those who need it most.”
Church officials said that the building would be occupied during the renovation process.
