Elmer Herbert Cole, long-time resident of Frankfort, passed away peacefully July 11, 2019, at Franciscan Hospital in Lafayette. He was 86. Born September 25, 1932 in Bone Cave, Tennessee to Walter and Minnie Cole; he was one of ten children, 3 boys and 7 girls. After spending most of his early years there, he moved north where he eventually settled in the Frankfort area. After being employed for 35 years, he retired from National Homes. He later worked for Zachary Confections in Frankfort and retired from there as well. He continued working in landscaping, home repairs and maintenance.
In 1953, he married Betty Rogers of Rose Hill, Virginia, on February 21 in Catoosa County, Georgia. They would have two children, a daughter Judy Ann and a son Kenneth Wayne. Elmer was an exceptional husband and father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had countless friends and acquaintances in Frankfort and throughout Clinton County. Truth be told, he probably rarely met a stranger. Living life to the fullest, Elmer focused on staying busy, being positive and encouraging those around him. He intentionally spent his time taking care of his family, his home and automobiles, doing jobs for neighbors, and visiting with coffee buddies. In their 66 years of marriage, he and Betty were always together, enjoying life, loving family and delighting in friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Andy and Howard Cole, sisters: Harmon Luther, Lorene Watkins, Charlene Russell, Lorell Roberts, Mary Jo Etter, and Delma Bryant. A sister, Betty Jean Sprague of Delphi, Indiana, survives.
Also surviving are his wife, Betty, daughter Judy (Dale) Watson and son Ken Cole (Cindi Swope), both of Frankfort, granddaughters Lisa Ann (Doren) Sultemeier and Amanda Kay (Jon) Hodgen , grandson Matthew Ryan Cole, great-grandchildren Cole, Lallie and Barrett Sultemeier, Natalie and Mason Hodgen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
