At approximately 12:04 a.m. Tuesday on I-65 southbound near the 178 mile marker (that is near the SR 43/178 exit) a motorcycle left the roadway and went into the guardrail ejecting the driver.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Daniel Connolly has revealed that for an unknown reason the motorcycle, a 2006 black Suzuki, was southbound when it left the roadway, entered the grassy median and struck the guardrail ejecting the driver Matthew Wayne Burton, 34 of Lafayette.into the median. The motorcycle continued southbound coming to rest on its side in the left lane.
Burton was transported by ambulance to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with serious injuries. Interstate southbound was shutdown for a short period for emergency personnel and Jim’s Wrecker Service to remove the motorcycle from the scene. Burton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. At this time it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
