The city of Frankfort will be looking for a new parks department superintendent for 2020. The current superintendent, Travis Sheets, has announced he will be leaving the city at the end of the year.
Sheets, who has spent the last two years working for the city, remarked, “I really enjoy being a part of the City of Frankfort team and part of the Parks Department family. We have accomplished so much, and there is still much to do. Mayor McBarnes has a vision, and I share that vision with him. I appreciate his passionate support these past two years.”
“I am proud of our community-building places where families, co-workers, and groups can gather outdoors and experience play and the environment with all senses. These places allow us the chance to enjoy the moments of togetherness and create memories.”
Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes is sorry to see Sheets go adding, “Our Parks department is stronger because of Travis’s extensive knowledge and understanding of zoology, aviaries, horticulture, and park management. He has been a tremendous benefit to our city and our community. We wish him well in all his future endeavors.”
Sheets and his wife Gina have opened a mission care retreat in the foothills of Superstition Wilderness in Arizona. The Arizona bed and breakfast, called Jumping Dog Vista, was opened to help transition missionaries moving from the mission field back to western life and offers a place to unwind in solitude or action. They plan to spend more time in Arizona working on this mission.
Sheets remarked, “I will be back and forth to Frankfort, we still have our home here, and our families and friends are here. We will simply be spending more time in Arizona than in Indiana, while also continuing to develop and expand agriculture around the world to help the poorest of the poor provide for their families.”
City officials are beginning the search for a new parks superintendent. They are seeking a visionary Parks Superintendent with a demonstrated experience of providing executive management of park planning and infrastructure projects and directing leisure, recreational and park programming to improve the quality of life for all City of Frankfort residents. More information regarding this position will be posted on the human resources page of the city website later this week.
