Mary Cantwell

Mary Louise Cantwell, 92, of Frankfort, IN, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Wesley Manor in Frankfort.

She was born August 22, 1927, in Frankfort, to Harrison Day and Hazel Hattie Harris Pippenger.  On January 22, 1947, she married Jack Dennis and he passed away on February 15, 2003.

Mary graduated from Frankfort Senior High School. She had been a bookkeeper for Portage High School for 25 years. Mary had also worked for GMAC Financing in the credit department in Terre Haute and Gary and was a coordinator for Vita/Ice Tax Programming. She had resided in Portage for 29 years, Terre Haute 3½ years and Darlington  for 3½ years before moving back to Frankfort. Mary was a member of the First Christian Church in Frankfort where she held several offices and played in the bell choir. She also held memberships in the American Legion Auxiliary, AARP, Retired Teachers Association, bowling and golf leagues, and volunteered at the library for 36 years-receiving volunteer of the year award in 2015 and enjoyed playing in the “String Along” dulcimer group.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Colleen McKinzie of Frankfort and Carla Sue Knight of Chesterton; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sons-in-law Randy McKinzie and William Knight.

Private family services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 1 pm at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort with live streaming of the service beginning at 1 pm.

Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort. As we proceed to Green Lawn Cemetery at 1:45 pm, we encourage people to show their love and support to the family by lining the route along North and South Jackson Street.
