ISP Makes Arrest in Connection to Chalmers Explosion

At approximately 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, White County Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call of shots fired at 105 E Earl St. Chalmers. White County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and advised they received reports of an explosion under a vehicle at that residence. White County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance from the Indiana State Police to conduct the investigation. Indiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and detectives from the Lafayette Post were called to the scene.

Preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that a black 2014 Ford Edge was damaged from an explosive device that had been placed under the vehicle. ISP EOD discovered that the explosive device was homemade. The vehicle was impounded by Farney’s Towing and processed by an ISP Crime Scene Technician.

Further investigation lead detectives to 201 S State Road 43 Chalmers, where Darren Amick, 43. was located. Amick was transported to White County Jail to be interviewed and later charged for the explosion that occurred at 105 E Earl St. Chalmers.

Amick is being held at White County Jail on preliminary charges of:

1. Controlled Explosive – Level 2 Felony

2. Arson – Level 4 Felony

3. Intimidation with a Weapon – Level 5 Felony

4. Possession of a Destructive Device – Level 5 Felony

5. Criminal Mischief – Class A Misdemeanor

Indiana State Police detectives were assisted by troopers from the Lafayette Post, ISP EOD, ISP Crime Scene Technician, White County Sherriff’s Department, and Farney’s Towing.

As this is an active criminal investigation, no further information will be released at this time. Detectives are still investing the original 9-1-1 call of shots fired.
