The Clinton County Commissioners approved a transportation, post-clearing and re-use agreements with Republic Services, who are in charge of the Clinton County Landfill, on Monday.
“We’re looking about 70 to 80 years down the road on those two (transportation and post-clearing) agreements,” said Commissioners President Scott Shoemaker. “The company is also putting $500,000 into a fund for post-use which could be a cross country track or a lot of other things that could happen to the landfill in 80 years. Also, we’re trying to figure out how we keep all the trash trucks from coming into downtown Frankfort.”
In addition, Shoemaker said they have commitments to keep dirt and mud off the road near the landfill. They are also going to have the ability to change the contract up, which was negotiated in 2005-2008.
In other news, the Clinton County Drainage Board did not approve a drainage request from the Rossville School District on its renovation project of Rossville High School.
“Unfortunately an item on the plan they submitted changed that we were not aware of,” said Clinton County Surveyor Dan Sheets. “It’s still under review and I expect this to be on the next Drainage Board agenda.”
Sheets added the district added an ag wing, which was needed, as well as a detention pond that the board was not aware of.
