Zionsville Selected for Little League HQ

Inside INdiana Business has announced that Pennsylvania-based Little League International has chosen Zionsville as the new home of its central region headquarters. The decision comes more than a year after the organization announced plans to relocate from its current home in Indianapolis.

The central region headquarters is one of five regional offices for Little League International and has been located in Indy since it was established in 1989. Zionsville was chosen from a number of communities that submitted bids and was one of three finalists, including Matteson, Illinois and Plainfield.

In a news release issued Friday, the organization cited Zionsville’s “adequate facilities, strong infrastructure, and a supporting community that appreciates and understands the ideals of Little League.”

The new central region headquarters will be located just south of the Zionsville High School baseball and softball complex. The organization will construct a new facility, including a championship stadium, that is expected to open in 2019.

“This is an exciting time for all of our Little League programs throughout the Central Region and for the members of the Zionsville community that helped make this decision possible,” said Nina Johnson-Pitt, Little League Central Region Director. “Our entire staff is looking forward to working with each of the members of the community to develop a strong future for all of our Little Leaguers throughout the Central Region and are excited for the possibilities that this community has to offer.”

Grand Park in Westfield was one of the central Indiana locations that submitted a bid to house the headquarters. The sports campus hosted this year’s Little League Baseball Great Lakes and Midwest Region Championships and Little League Softball Central Region Championship tournaments. The organization says, as the relocation process continues, Grand Park will host those championships in 2018 as well.

The central region headquarters serves as the administrative center for Little League Baseball and Softball in 13 states. The original Indianapolis located was sold to Cathedral High School.
