Shan Sheridan called the Community Day held Saturday at the Frankfort Clinton County Regional Airport “something different.”
“This is more or less an annual event now that we are going to take the roots of this, the seeds of this, and now make it grow,” the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director said. “They started this several years ago but it more designed to get people the understanding of the airport.”
This Community Day combined airplanes flying in, a free pancake breakfast, food trucks, door prizes with bounce houses for the kids and an American Flag Drop in demonstration from Skydive Indianapolis. They also included a career job fair with the activities that included about 15 businesses including Frito-Lay, Tenneco, Donaldson’s and the Farmers Bank. The Frankfort Fire Department was also on hand with a fire truck.
Airport Manager Matt Hankins said this event kind of grew out of group of people that really love the airport.
“This is something we’d like to build upon,” said Hankins. “Maybe, bigger and better things in the years to come. Definitely we want to showcase the airport for the community and let everybody know about this hidden gem we have.”
Hankins said they are several new things at the airport. One is the construction of a second hangar, which gained occupancy availability last month. Also, there is a new flight school and a new helicopter flight school at the airport. In fact, there were helicopter rides from the airport that gave interested folks a birds eye view of Frankfort.
“I think you are just going to continue to see the airport grow especially with the way things are growing in Boone County and Lafayette is coming closer by building this way,” said Hankins.
Everyone agreed that the Community Day was a great way for the airport to grow.
“I believe that this is an opportunity for our community to see again what we have out here and spark an interest,” said Sheridan. “If we can bring other employers here and other community leaders here, it gives us an opportunity to rub shoulders with other people and talk about what is happening in our community.”
