Sharon Sue Haby

Sharon Sue Haby passed away on February 3rd, 2023 at Creasy Springs Health Campus in Lafayette surrounded by her family.  Sharon was born on April 7, 1934 in Amboy, Indiana to Herman Davis and Eva (Bowland) Davis. The oldest of ten, she began caring for others at a young age and was an attentive and loving older sister to her nine younger siblings. She graduated from Peru High School in 1951 and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1954.  That same year she married Richard J. Haby who preceded her in death after their 65th anniversary in 2019.  Always others-focused, she was a nurse at heart and was quick to help many friends, family, and neighbors with her medical care and wisdom. She never knew a stranger.

Although she served as a private-duty nurse in various capacities, Sharon spent the majority of her life as her husband’s active partner in his various business ventures and caring for their six children and later 25 grandchildren. She was an amazingly hard-working woman, but also made time to enjoy many travel adventures with Richard including trips to every continent except Antarctica. Family was vital to her and she loved babies and children!  Sharon was a gracious woman, with hospitality as her middle name.  She was quick to welcome anyone into her home including the many foreign exchange students whom she and Richard hosted through the years.  No one left her home without an offer for a glass of juice or a bite to eat, and often got a humorous or engaging tale of family history as well. Sharon served others with a joyful attitude and willing spirit. From her over 55 years as a member of Community Reformed Church helping with VBS or preparing a meal for someone in need, from volunteering for the Red Cross, or in her years as a board member of the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, Sharon gave of herself to so many.  She was truly a model of faithfulness to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be missed by many but is now rejoicing in the presence of her savior, Jesus Christ.

Surviving are her children, Susan (Tom) Dinkledine of Russiaville;  Connie (Rob) Walsman of Indianapolis;  Steve (Diane) Haby of Lafayette; Carol (Vince) Klinker of West Chester, OH;  Beth (Joe) Faulkner of Lafayette; Sarah (Bill) Davis of Lafayette; her 25 grandchildren and 42 (and counting)  great grandchildren. Sharon is also survived by sisters Martha Krohn of Winamac; Judy Sierzputowski of Lafayette; Ruth Wright of Edmond, OK; Mike Davis of Los Angeles, CA; Pat (Mick) Tiede of Francesville and Kathy Meyer of Winamac.  In addition to her husband and parents, Sharon is preceded in death by two infant daughters; one sister, Shirley Hatfield and two brothers, Max Davis and Don Davis.

Visitations and service will be held at Community Reformed Church, 2501 South 18th Street Lafayette, IN 47909. Visitation will be Friday, February 10 from 4-7 pm and Saturday, February 11th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am followed by a celebration of life service to commence at 11am.
