There were very few contested races in Clinton County elections Tuesday night.
Election coverage for the 2023 general election was made possible by the Frankfort Eagles Lodge #976.
Incumbent Republican Clarence Warthan won the only contested race in the City of Frankfort Tuesday night as he defeated Democrat David Riggs in the City Council District 1 race. Warthan garnered nearly 77 percent of the votes and finished with 126 votes. Riggs wound up with 39 votes.
Warthan will join councilman Joe Stevens (District 2), John Large (District 3), Steve Beardsley (District 4) along at -large candidates Megan Sheets and Eric Woods. All races were uncontested with the exception of the two at-large candidates. Also, Michael Brite won his uncontested race in District 3. However, John Large was just named to replace Brite, who just resigned last month.
In Mulberry, Republican Paula Bennett defeated Jeannie Fife 85 to 20 in the Clark-Treasurer race, while all five who ran in the Town Council were elected, Dave Jones finished first with 79, Randy Ravenscraft was second with 75 followed by Lewis Wheeler at 74, Lindsey Foster with 71 and Joey Mitchell with 71.
In Rossville, Democrat Brooke Meeks edged Republican Gwin Hanna 161 to 151. The Town Council race where three of the four individuals get elected, the winner was Stanley Cox with 201 votes, Sally Mcgill was second at 197 votes and Benjamin Kellogg took third with 184. Jeffrey Sanne finished fourth with 193 votes.
Boone County
Lebanon City Council winners in contested races were Republican Sandra Jasionowski and Republican John Copeland. Jasinowski defeated Greg Woods in District 2 103 to 60, while Copeland defeated Aaron Smith and Brian Allen Kirschbaum to take District 5. Copeland had 264 votes to easily outdistance his two opponents. Republican Robert Hawkins edged Republican Sierra Messneger 767 to 764 in the At-Large race where two get elected.
Other non-contested council winners in Lebanon were Mike Kincaid in District 1, Keith Campbell in District 2 and Dick Robertson in District 4.
Mayor Matt Gentry also won in an uncontested race for Mayor.
In Zionsville, Town Council winners were Democrat Tim McElderry (Ward 1), Republican Jason Alan Plunkett (Ward 2), Republican Craig Melton (Ward 3), Republican Sarah Esterline Sampson (Ward 4) and Republican Brad Burk (Ward 5). The two At-Large winners were Republicans Joe Stein and Evan Morris.
Republican John Stehr won the uncontested race for Mayor.
There were two contested races for the Whitestown Town Council. Winners are Republican Cheryl Hancock (Ward 1) and Democrat Tobe Thomas (Ward 4).
Also, the public question on the Sheridan Schools passed 110 to 32.
Carroll County
Republican Kamron Yates won the Delphi Mayor’s race with 68.7 percent of the votes to 31.3 percent for Write-In candidate Shonda Isaacs. Republican Julie Price defeated Leanne Aldrich 56.3 percent to 43.7 percent for the Clerk-Treasurer spot.
There was only one contested race for the Common Council as Republican Denny Myers defeated Michael Isley 62 percent to 38 percent. Other uncontested winners for the Common Council were Doyle Moore (At-Large), Cody Nelson (District 1), Erin Jubril (District 3) and Spencer Kingery (District 4).
In Camden, Republican Jeff Sieber got past Jordyn Stevens 50.8 percent to 49.2 percent for the Clerk-Treasurer post. Republican Mark Schrock won a three-way race to win the Town Council At-Large position over Republicans Andrew Robinson and Brent Deer.
