The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 256 is hosting a Young Eagles Rally to grant the youth of Carroll County with the opportunity to experience free airplane rides.
The Young Eagles organization is hosting free airplane rides for kids ages eight to 17 tomorrow, May 18 in Delphi with parental or legal guardian approval and signature. The event will kick off tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. as weather permits at Delphi Municpal at 8296 W. Div. Line Rd. in Delphi.
The flights are provided by local members of the organization who volunteer their time and aircraft to provide the flights for the youth of the community. Every pilot int he program is certified with the Federal Aviation Administration or Transport Canada, and the pilots are instructed to follow federal regulations and not perform aerobatic maneuvers during the flights.
Participants will begin their experience by learning more about the plane and the sights from the air, which includes discussions of how the airplanes work, what the aeronautical chart or map reads and what every aspect of the instrument panel and the interior of the plane are utilized for when the airplane takes flight.
Following the instructional period, the youth member will be permitted to fly with the pilot for around 15 to 20 minutes as the pilot follows the basic steps in the flight pattern.
“You will experience the awesome feeling of flight that many people only dream about,” the organization released. “Many people remember this experience for the rest of their lives.”
Participants are required to maintain a working knowledge of safety when participating in the event, such as listening and following instructions provided by the pilot, staying away from the propellers of the airplane and staying with their assigned pilot or ground crew at all times to ensure they are safe.
