Leaf Collection Update from the Street Department

Leaf collection has picked back up after the recent snow, cold temperatures, and the holiday. The wind and cold weather have knocked down a large amount of leaves all at once, and our crews are working hard to stay on top of it.
Beginning today, crews will be staying out until 5 PM daily, and we will also be working Saturdays. As of now, we will be out on Saturday the 15th and Saturday the 22nd. We’ll keep you updated if that schedule changes.
I want to be very transparent about this process: leaf collection is not quick or easy.
Even with three leaf machines running in a single quadrant, we still cannot get every pile in one pass. Two of these machines are pulled by tractors, and the travel time required to dump when they fill up is significant.
We understand the frustration. You work hard to rake leaves to the street, and the wind may blow them down the road, into a neighbor’s yard, or right back into yours. Trust me — this happens at our own homes too.
Our crew — guys and gal — are out there every day, working in both nice and very cold weather. These machines are heavy, the hoses are heavier, and raking all day takes a toll. They work tirelessly each year to get every leaf picked up.
Every season we receive complaints about timeliness, so I want to reassure you of this:
We will get to your leaves.
All we ask for is patience.
It’s also very difficult for us to predict the exact day we will reach a specific residence. The best, most accurate information we can provide is which quadrant we are currently working in. We have already completed one full pass through all four quadrants. Today crews were in the Northwest quadrant, and we will pick up where we left off tomorrow starting at 7 AM.
We will continue working through every quadrant until all leaves are collected. It may take a week to 10 days before we return to the same area, but rest assured — we will be back.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work through this year’s leaf collection. We truly appreciate it.
