This past weekend, the Rossville High School Drama Club, known as the Hivemind Theatre Troupe, delighted audiences with an interactive mystery dinner theatre performance at the historic Delphi Opera House. The production, written by playwright Eileen Moushey, transformed the venue into the scene of a wedding celebration that quickly took a dramatic and mysterious turn.
Guests were treated to a dinner of soup, salad, and breadsticks while becoming part of the show itself. As the wedding reception unfolded and an untimely death occurred, audience members were invited to put on their detective hats. Throughout the evening, they solved puzzles, sang love songs, and worked together to uncover clues in order to crack the case.
“Each play we present yearly at Rossville is so unique. The fall musical includes students across elementary, middle, and high school. The spring children’s play features a mostly middle-school cast. But the murder mystery is for the high schoolers,” said director Jason Newhouser. “The themes are a little heavier, but it requires an immense amount of improvisational skill and talent that takes years to develop. I am so proud of this cast.”
The mystery dinner theatre has become a beloved annual tradition, typically held the first weekend of February at the Delphi Opera House. The event highlights not only students’ acting abilities but also their improvisation, problem-solving, and audience engagement skills in a fully immersive theatrical experience.
