Gene Bass

Gene Bass, age 93, of Lafayette formerly of mulberry, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Aster Place. He was born on July 31, 1932, in Danville, IN to John and Nova (McCarty) Bass. He married Druscilla Sue Krammes on January 24, 1954. She preceded him in passing on July 24, 2010.

Gene graduated from Mulberry High School class of 1951. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy where he trained as a Corpsman. He was then transferred to the Marines where he worked as a frontline combat medic during the Korean War. After returning home, Gene worked as a manager at the Meridian Mutual Insurance company. He then began working with the Lafayette Ford Dealerships, handling finances for these establishments. Gene was recognized by the Ford Corporation for 35 years of dedicated service. His most recent employment was with Mike Raisor assisting in operations and monetary management. Gene attended Mulberry United Methodist Church. He was known for his love of antiquing and traveling to different auctions to find the perfect vintage piece for his collection. Gene was also committed to having a picturesque yard and enjoyed mowing it quite often. He will be remembered for his dedication and hard work to provide for his loved ones and his devotion to his family as well as the Lord.

He is survived by his son, Jeff (Ramona) Bass; six grandchildren, Jordan and Whitney Bass, Kelsey, Kierstan, Kaitlyn and Karlie Blankenship; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and wife; daughter, Kathleen Blankenship; and siblings Jack Bass, Max Bass, and Mary Ellen.
