Marlene Kay (Scircle) Boyd, 89, of rural Frankfort, passed away August 23, 2026 at her home. She was born August 1, 1937 in Frankfort, Indiana to Bill and Marge (Eaton) Scircle—the family for whom the town of Scircleville was named. She married Larry Eugene Boyd at the Scircleville United Methodist Church on May 12. 1957. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2026.
Marlene was a 1955 graduate of Scircleville High School, where she was a cheerleader—her school had no girls’ sports teams yet, or she would have played. After they married, Marlene and Larry made their first home in Scircleville before purchasing a farm in rural Frankfort. She worked at Famers Bank, Frankfort, for many years, retiring from the Mulberry branch as Assistant Branch Manager. She was a member of the Mulberry United Methodist Church and Mothers Club. She loved playing cards with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time outside gardening and working in the yard. She also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Indiana University and Purdue University basketball with Larry.
She is survived by her son, Kim (Michelle) Boyd of Frankfort, and daughters, Shelly (Randy) Surber of Frankfort, Julia (Jim) Huffer of Mulberry, and Dana (Shawn) Burton of Frankfort; grandchildren, Jeremy Boyd of Frankfort, Eric (Sharilyn) Boyd of Frankfort, Zach (Samantha) Leibenguth of Elizaville, Ryan (Laura) Surber of North Manchester, Joshua (Elisha) Surber of Mulberry, Jordan (Dustin) Lindahl of Fair Oaks, Jessica (Kirk) Wood of Frankfort, Courtney Burton of Frankfort, and Jake Burton of Carmel; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jane Mitchell and Brenda Smith, both of Kokomo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Boyd; her parents; a sister, Diana Grider; and a nephew, Brian Grider.
Marlene was many things to many people, and “loving” doesn’t even begin to describe her. She never knew a stranger, had a servant’s heart, and would help anyone even though she was so busy. She once told us, “If you want something done, ask a busy person.”
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, August 27, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 28 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside the man she loved for 69 years.
