Stephen Russell, 70, of Lafayette, passed away on August 22, 2026 at Clinton House Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Frankfort, Indiana. He was born to George Paul and Marlene (Brummett) Russell in Lafayette, Indiana on February 12, 1956. His parents survive. He married Laura Ann Washington in Lafayette on April 12, 1975, and she survives.
Stephen was a 1974 graduate of Lafayette Jeff High School and was a lifelong Lafayette resident. He worked for Fairfield Manufacturing and retired in 2003. Stephen was also a small business owner of the C. Russell Construction Company. When he wasn’t working, Stephen enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He also loved to travel. Stephen was particularly proud of his work in construction and he built the home that he and Laura lived in for forty years together.
Surviving are: his wife, Laura of Lafayette; his sons, Joby Paul (Misty) Russell and Charles Lee Russell, both of Lafayette; his parents, George and Marlene Russell of Mulberry; his grandsons, Landen (companion Kayla) Russell of Lafayette and Kaiden (companion Josie) Russell of West Lafayette; his granddaughters, Carmen Simpson, Finlee Russell, and Maelynn Russell, all of Lafayette; his brother, Douglas Allen (Rose) Russell of Lafayette, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dean Wayne Russell; and his sister, Kimberly Marlene Russell.
A graveside service will be held Monday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the Johnson Cemetery, 7153 E 800 S, Lafayette, IN 47909. Goodwin Funeral Home is honored to assist the Russell family.
