A Heat Advisory remains in effect across much of central Indiana, including Clinton County, as hot temperatures and high humidity continue into Friday.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says heat index values could reach between 100 and 108 degrees today, with the advisory remaining in effect until 8 p.m. Friday. Friday afternoon heat index values are expected to range from 100 to 109 degrees.
The combination of heat and humidity may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Those who must be outside should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activity to the early morning or evening hours.
People are also encouraged to check on relatives, friends and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
Cooler Weather Arrives This Weekend
A change in the weather is expected beginning Saturday.
Friday night brings a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m., with a low around 70 degrees.
Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 86 and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. A slight chance of storms continues Saturday evening, with temperatures falling to around 64 degrees.
Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 81 degrees and a low around 59 Sunday night.
Sunny conditions are forecast for Labor Day Monday, with a high near 82 degrees and a low around 62 Monday night.
Thunderstorms remain possible at times from Thursday evening through Saturday night across parts of the region.
