The Clinton County YMCA held its grand opening Monday afternoon for the Youth Activity Center and Fitness Center in addition to showing off a lit of new equipment.

“This is really the vehicle that we can use to make a difference in people’s lives and help them to reach their potential,” said YMCA Interim Executive Director Paul Cramer. “You can use this for a lifetime and it’s wonderful for youths, families and the community.”

A ribbon cutting for the new Youth Activity Center started the day off before going up to the Fitness Center where several new pieces of equipment were on display for the first time and ready for use.

“This is very important to the community,” said YMCA Health and Fitness Coordinator Nancy Conklin. “We need something like this in our community to keep people healthy. Without much else in competition in Frankfort, there’s no place else to go.”

This is some of the new equipment available in the fitness center at the Clinton County YMCA.

Conklin said the project has been in the making for a little over a year not counting the installation of new heating and air conditioning elements on the top of the building as well all the new equipment.

Conklin added they are hoping to expand their early education, daycare and preschool programs in addition to getting their parking lot paved.

When asked what was next, Cramer said they just completed a strategic plan and will make decisions soon.

“We will go where the needs exist,” said Cramer. “The YMCA is a direct reflection of the community.”
