olice Department’s four-week long popular and beneficial babysitting safety course again will be offered this fall for Frankfort and Clinton County teenage (12-18 years old) babysitters.
According to Police Department Office Manager and coordinator of the program Charity Keller, the course will begin Wednesday, October 25 from 6-8 p.m. in the Police Department’s conference room and will continue for the following three Wednesdays (November 1, November 8, and November 15).
“We are pleased to partner with Healthy Communities Clinton County Coalition and Covering Kids and Family of Indiana. Each week, different presenters will provide attendees with valuable safety and skills information to help educate our teenage babysitters on all kinds of topics including basic child care, household safety and emergency action plans.
“Our overall goal with this program always is to enhance the safety of everyone involved in a babysitting experience, from the teenagers responsible for the children in their care to the youngsters being cared for; it’s all about knowledge and safety. We want everyone’s experiences in babysitting to be positive and rewarding,” Keller said.
Course schedule:
Wednesday, October 25: basic child care taught by a local nurse
Wednesday, November 1: how to recognize signs of abuse taught by an Indiana Department of Child Services representative. Also, Healthy Communities Clinton County Coalition will discuss common safety practices.
Wednesday, November 8: Frankfort police officers and firefighters will discuss safety tips
Wednesday, November 15: basic CPR information taught by a Frankfort police officer who is a CPR-licensed instructor. Note: this is not a certification-level course.
Forty slots are available for the free course. Teenagers interested in registering must do so by 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 by calling Keller at 765-654-4245. Attendees must be available to participate in all four weeks of the course and will receive a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the course.
The Police Department is located at 201 West Washington Street with the conference room located on the main floor of the building.
