At approximately 5:35 p.m. Thursday, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 8400 block east of State Road 47 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject that had been struck.
Leon Brandenburg, 83, of Sheridan Indiana, was pronounced deceased on the scene. He was struck by a 2007 Toyota Rav 4, driven by Kristen Valdez, 41, of Kirklin. She was not injured. Initial investigation shows that Brandenburg had just retrieved mail from his mailbox when he was struck.
The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to investigate. At this time, alcohol does not appear to be involved.
