Clinton Central Swimming Teams Remain Unbeaten

The Clinton Central boys’ swimming team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 137-23 victory over North Montgomery Monday in Michigantown.

The boys had five personal-bests on the night with Conner Tarkington leading the winners with two. John Dunn, Colton Payne and Cain Martin each added one personal best.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs won their own invitational. Central finished with 139 points. Cascade was next with 83 and South Newton ended with four.

Special recognition goes to Erik McCarty for breaking the 100 butterfly record with a time of 54.38. The boys also had 12 personal bests. Invite champions are Ashton Albaugh, Owen Smith, McCarty and Blake Mosbaugh in the 200 medley relay; Dunn in the 200 and 500 free; McCarty in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle; Mosbaugh in the 100 freestyle; Austin Orem, Smith, Wreese Sheets and Dunn in the 200 freestyle relay; Albaugh in the 100 backstroke; Smith in the 100 breaststroke; and Mosbaugh, McCarty, Dunn and Alabaugh in the 400 freestyle relay.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs defeated Carroll 131-52 at home.

The boys had 21 personal bests. Owen Kocher had a big night with wins in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. He also had three personal bests out of four swims. McCarty came within one second of breaking the school record in the 100 backstroke, while Tarkington had three personal bests.

CC Girls Swimming

Clinton Central ran its record to 7-0 with a 113-70 victory over North Montgomery Monday night.

The girls had nine personal bests. Raelyn Albaugh, Emmaleigh Snell and Reagan Kimmell led the team with two personal bests each. Avery Harris, Averi Gilmore and Bailey Douglass each added one personal best.

On Saturday, Clinton Central finished second in their own invitational. Cascade won the event with 123 points, Clinton Central was second at 117 and South Newton had 31.

Special recognition goes to Isabelle Hendrickson for breaking the 50 freestyle invitational record of 25.88. Special recognition also goes to the 200 medley relay team of Kailie Burnette, Hendrickson, Macie McQuinn and Grace Atkisson for breaking the invitational record with a time of 2:01.41. Both records were set back in 2013.

The girls had 13 personal bests. Meet winners Burnette, Hendrickson, McQuinn and Atkisson in the 200 medley relay; Hendrickson in the 50 freestyle; Ava Schimmel, Atkisson, McQuinn and Hendrickson in the 200 freestyle relay; and Burnette in the 100 backstroke.

Frankfort Swimming

Both the Frankfort High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams had a good night in losses to Tri-West. Tri-West won the boys’ meet 105-69 and the girls’ meet 110-60.

Event winners for the boys included 200 medley relay of Terry Frye, Adam Haynes, Tyler Harness and Jack Deckard (2:0.32); Harness in the 200 IM (2:17.54) and 500 freestyle (5:20.39), Ethan Cook in one-meter diving (140.05) and Haynes in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.66).

Event winners for the girls included 200 medley relay of Karely Santos, Georgia Meyer, Yasmin Lemus and Payton Teter (2:24.37) and Mia Hernandez in one-meter diving (118.20).

Best time drops included Meyer (200 freestyle dropped 30 seconds and in the 500 freestyle dropped one minute, 13 seconds); Chloe Campbell (200 freestyle dropped 11 seconds); Noe Angeles (200 freestyle dropped 31 seconds and dropped 14 seconds in 100 breaststroke); Frye (dropped 12 seconds in 100 freestyle); and Jacob Craig (500 freestyle dropped 25 seconds and seven seconds in 100 backstroke).

Central Girls Down Attica in Basketball

Clinton Central jumped out to a 20-1 lead and never looked back in a 44-24 victory over Attica Saturday in Attica.

Kendall Davison led Central with 14 points. Allison Robbins added 11. Robbins and Kortney Surber led the team in rebounds with seven apiece while Davison and Sam Adams grabbed six rebounds each. Davidson and Robbins each had six assists. Central added 17 steals led by Robbins with seven.

Frankfort Boys Basketball Drop Pair

Lewis Cass rallied from an early 10-point deficit to defeat Frankfort 54-46 on Saturday night. FHS had its 10-point lead in the second quarter before the home club rallied to tie at 19 at intermission.

Jade Ayers led the Hot Dogs with 18 points.

In the JV contest, Doug Wood and Eli Oldham each scored 13 points to lead Frankfort to a 49-44 victory.

On Friday, FHS scored just 14 points in the first half in a 63-38 loss at home to Tri-West. Ayers led the way with 15 points.

Frankfort Invitational Wrestling

The Hot Dogs struggled to put together a strong team performance in the Frankfort Invitational on Saturday. With multiple wrestlers out, FHS fell to Shelbyville 42-33 in the first round, fell to tournament champion Greencastle 54-30 in round tow before defeating Kokomo 35-32 in the final round when Armondo Roa dominated his match to win 19-3 thus giving Frankfort the victory.

James Ostler went 3-0 on the day and improved his record to 11-1 on the season.

FHS Girls Basketball Team Falls

Frankfort fell to Tri-Central 72-34 Tuesday night in Sharpsville. Jordan Frazier led the team in scoring with 17 and sophomore Mady Cook came off the bench to add nine.
