Community Events

Graduation dates and times for the four Clinton County high school have been announced. They are: Frankfort (Saturday, May 25, 10 a.m.), Clinton Central (Saturday, May 25, 10 a.m.), Clinton Prairie (Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m.) and Rossville (Sunday, June 2, 2 p.m.).

 

The Michigantown Lions/Alumni Community Building will be hosting a Memorial Day Breakfast and Program on Monday, May 27. Service begins following breakfast at 9 a.m. The breakfast is an all-you-can-eat event from 7-9 a.m. and features pancakes, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, sausage, milk, orange juice and coffee. This is a free will donation. Speaker will be Gregg Williamson. Also Fun Time Band along with Readings by Kirklin American Legion, and remarks by Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and TAPS by Betsy Ross.

 

The TPA Park Bird Aviary will officially reopen to the public on Friday, May 24. The new aviary will be handicap accessible and will include a covered feeding area, a waterfall, seating areas and a winding concrete path. The aviary will remain open through the first week of August. Hours are 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. daily.

 

The Russiaville Summer Fest will be held May 31 through June 2 in downtown Russiaville. Half price pre-sale tickets are on sale at Martin’s Hardware in Russiaville until May 30 at 12 p.m. It’s $20 for 40 tickets. Join them for carnival rides, games, pancake breakfast, 5K, Carl Koontz Memorial Poker Run, parade, garden tractor pull, petting zoo, activities, entertainment and great food. St. Matthew United Methodist Church will be offering a casual outdoor service on Sunday mornings in June and July at 11 a.m. Come in your shorts and flip-flops, or whatever is comfortable, and join them in the west courtyard for fellowship, prayer, scripture and a life message. Enter through the front doors at 1951 Wilshire Dr. If inclement weather, the service will move inside to Room 16. For more information, call 654-5575.

Summer Place, a real 50’s town, is having its 17th Annual Car Show on Saturday, May 25. The proceeds benefit “A Home for Every Child Foundation”. Top 20 trophies will be awarded. All car show participants will be entered into a cash drawing and three lucky winners will win $200, $100 and $50. Dash plaques given to the first 200 car entries. The First Annual Touch-A-Truck event will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the Frankfort High School parking lot. There will be 15 community vehicles for the entire family to enjoy, explore, climb and learn about the vehicles and personnel that protect, serve and build the community.

 

Join the Clinton County Soil and Water Conservation District and the South Fork Wildcat Stewardship Initiative on Monday, June 3, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Skanta Theatre at the Frankfort Community Public Library to hear a special presentation by Cassie Hauswald, Freshwater Ecologist, The Nature Conservancy. She will be focusing on a project to measure water quality improvements in tributaries of the Upper Wabash River, including the South Fork of Wildcat Creek, using freshwater mussels. IU Health Frankfort, 1300 S. Jackson St., is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Donors of all blood types, especially type O, are urged to make an appointment to donate using the Blood Donor App, at RedCrossBlood,org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

 

Steven Frank of the Central Indiana DNA Interest Group will give a workshop entitled, “Getting the Most from AncestryDNA” at the Frankfort Community Public Library on Saturday, June 22, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Lower Level Meeting Room. Registration for the Bales Strong 5K Fun Run is now open. The event, sponsored by the Frankfort Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, will be held Saturday, July 13. Registration starts at 7 a.m, and race begins at 8 a.m. Registration fee is $30. All proceeds for this 5K Fun Run/Walk will be donated to Officer Rob Bales.
