Community Schools of Frankfort Drop Graduation Credit Hours to 40

The Community Schools of Frankfort Board of Education reduced the Frankfort High School graduation credit requirement from 42 to 40 hours Tuesday night.

“The reasoning behind it is that the Indiana Department of Education set the requirement for high school at 40,” said Superintendent Dr. Matt Rhoda. “At some point and time, the Community Schools of Frankfort set it at 42. So, it’s been hurting some kids who move in from out of district.”

Rhoda added the students that move in or transfer in impact the graduation rate.

The Career Tech Building project hit a snag recently when Executive Director Kurt Cantlon resigned. Pam Rager was named the interim director until late July.

“He’s been a great director of our career tech and a great advocate for the Career Tech building that we want to work with the community to get built,” said Rhoda.

Last month, the Community Schools of Frankfort thought they had a replacement for their Chief Financial Officer Leslie Michael who retired in early February. However, things didn’t quite work out as planned.

“We had struggles in our department,” said Rhoda. “We’ve had a department that we felt like we needed to have someone here in person. We tried it with a virtual and he was doing a great job. But, there a lot of things that need to get cleaned up.”

Rhoda added they hired Paul Gabriel, a retired CFO from the Center Grove School District in Indianapolis on an interim basis until late June or early July. The board also named Charlene Molberg  as an interim deputy treasurer for accounts receivable/accounts payable.
